In the 1950s, a party functionary goes to rural Transylvania to collectivize village farms.
A wealthy farmer resists relinquishing his wealth and doesn’t want to be reduced to the level of those who never worked.
The concept of collectivization is summarized by an indignant villager who, obliged to work the land he no longer owns, grumbles to a party official, ”You cut off my d…, put it in my hand and tell me, take it, it's still yours.”
“…This well-scripted, handsome film is an eloquent and entertaining argument against communism …
…Fine acting and wealth of richly developed minor characters and subplots give the pic strength. A strong plus is a coherent storyline that is straight-forward and accessible, rare among central European pics….”
